The Fresh: Stop fixing things that aren't broken, know what to keep.
Brand leaders have a bad habit of tearing down the house just because they’re tired of the wallpaper. Tips from Noise 13's Brand Pantry™
When you look at your brand every single day, you develop fatigue. You want to rewrite the tagline. You want to redesign the hero product. But an audit isn’t just about finding the rot—it’s about protecting your freshest, most valuable assets from your own boredom.
In our Brand Pantry methodology, “The Fresh” are the things generating outsized trust and momentum. They are your non-negotiables.
Here is what protecting the fresh looks like:
1. The Irrational Hospitality Touch
Think of the DoubleTree chocolate chip cookie. It has nothing to do with room rates or thread count, but it signals care. If a new CFO tries to cut the cookie budget, the brand dies a little.* What is your irrational, high-touch moment? When you audit, you don’t cut this. You put a spotlight on it.
*I recently had to stay at a DoubleTree, and yes, they have reduced the cookie budget. It’s still offered, but at the check-in desk and kept warm for long periods, so it’s crunchy vs freshly baked. The memory of the cookie at turndown service is gone, but the overall experience of this location matched the cookie experience. No longer as special but still there.
2. The Unpolished Origin Story
A food brand scaling into national retail often tries to sanitize its founding story to sound “professional.” Don’t. If you started by mixing sauces in a shared kitchen at 3 AM because you couldn’t find a marinade that didn’t taste like chemicals, keep the dirt on the roots. Polish the packaging, keep the grit in the story. People want the real truth; don't lose the passion of the beginning.
3. The Anchor Efficacy
If your food tech platform reduces prep time by 40%, or your wellness tonic actually aids sleep, don’t bury that core utility under new, trendy lifestyle messaging. “We make you sleep” is the fresh ingredient. Adding more claims creates a lot of extra material to sift through. Choose when and where these extra layers of story need to be. Don’t get carried away with garnishes.
The Test: Look at your brand. What is the one thing your most loyal customers constantly bring up unprompted? Put a fence around it, keep it strong and maintained.
When you’re ready for help with a full brand experience audit, we’re here to help. But take a little time and fresh eyes to see the value your brand already has.
